Technologies changed our lives

Hamid Hashmi

As I am typing this article, I
have been thinking if computer was never created in the past century, would I be able to type this piece of article by using MS word to take part in the competition? Without the invention of World Wide Web (www) by Tim Berners-Lee, can I witness this breakthrough of information almost in every subject.
As I put my thoughts into the words, another question props out of nowhere, scientific discoveries have brought us to the exhilarating world of technology. It is beyond doubt that technology is the lifeline of modern society which is of utmost utility and importance. Because technological innovations have brought mankind to a new bizarre dimension which we have never thought before. Biomedical electronics, pharmacogenomics and green technology are the megatrends in the 21st century, which i believe will pioneer the developments and applications of science and technology in future.
Science and technology dares us to dream the impossible to make possible. Every human being aspires for serenity. If serenity is the end then the technology is the mean through which one can achieve the ultimate goal. Technology gives us the courage to venture into unknowns, and challenges us to be determined when we are doubtful.
Technology develops over time and things that were impossible long ago are now possible. Consider air conditioning and food preservation, for example appliances such as washing machines and irons make many people lives easier, television keep us entertained, airplanes reduced our distance and communication made this world a real global village. Development in the field of medical technology helped us to treat and cure patients in a more accurate way. More than 3,000 years ago, pigeon post was one of the popular methods to deliver message from one place to another. Now with invention of the modern day technology, distances reduced to an extent that messages can be delivered within seconds in every corner of the world. We often hear that technology is changing the world and it is changing the way that people earn their livelihoods. One of the finest examples of this takeover of technology is modern day ride-hailing apps and the way people are making huge amounts of profits from them. A couple of years ago, two of the largest ride-hailing companies Careem and Uber gives new employment opportunities to number of people across the world. They started this concept from one country and expanded it to several major countries of the world. These ride-hailing apps are now a huge phenomenon. Many people are associated with these apps and are driving their own cars or have hired drivers to drive their cars for these apps. One can easily determine that what technology has given to us.
When i thought of photographs, again it was some very sophisticated gadgetry, accessible to only a few, laborious processes to boot, which led to the film seeing the light of the day and then, one or two prints. Who could dream of a selfie taken at top of a mountain peak sent off to a thousand friends, who would relay it to a million others in seconds, and even printed into the glossiest of magazines.
Access to education, however cherished a goal for our society which remains out of reach for a large proportion of population. Modern day technologies have made it easier for every individual to access to education and indeed it has changed our style of studying. Now, the culture of e-books and tablets helped in reducing costs of studies. This have improved efficiency and in general expanded the reach as well as affordability.
Cell phone availability in places like rural areas has helped poor farmers to track the market prices of their crops. Computer records have made public records easier to obtain in much of the developing world. Online shopping innovations like Amazon, EBay, E-kart, Flipchart etc have saved the time and money of people by providing door step delivery of goods and services.
It is the technology which has changed our style of living. The modern techniques over ruled the traditional techniques in almost all spheres of life. From agriculture to transportation and communication to business affairs we can find change in every sphere. One cannot deny that it is the technology which has made our life easier, comfortable and indeed joyful. But at the same time as a generation of new millennium, i suggest that a holistic approach in science and technology should be taken, to form a more equitable and sustainable world. We have to ensure that science and technology being rightfully used to tackle the educational, environmental, economic and social problems. However the need of the hour guides us that we should make a reasonable balance between manual work and technological work so as to reduce stress and strain produced by modern technology.
