Body of militant recovered along with weapon, tributes paid to Army solider

KUPWARA, July 12: Body of a militant was recovered from forests area while as Army paid tributes to Late Para trooper Mukut Bihari Meena who was killed during encounter on July 11. Meanwhile amid restrictions thousands of people today attended the funeral prayers of 20-year old youth at Trehgam in this north Kashmir district.
According to top police official, on July 11, a soldier and a militant were killed in the gunfight in Kandi forests, after which the body of a militants was recovered today along with weapon including AK-47 rifle and other items while as one soldier was martyred who was later identified as Sepoy Mukul Meena from 4 Para.
The operation against the militants is still underway in the dense woods in Kandi forests of Badibehak and Saduo ganga area of Kupwara, the police official told ET.
The official in Srinagar said that army paid tribute to Late Para trooper Mukut Bihari Meena today, during the ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks, paid homage to the slain soldier.
In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in to pay their last respects to the slain soldier, the official added.
He said that the mortal remains of the soldier were flown for last rites to his native place.
Meanwhile thousands of people today attended the funeral prayers of 20-year-old youth at Trehgam Kupwara.
Sources said that the youth namely Khalid Gafar (20) son of Abdul Gafar Malik was killed while another person suffered injuries after government forces allegedly opened fire upon a group of protesters who pelted stones on them at Trehgam village on Tuesday evening.
They said that soon after the slain was buried, the people mostly youth took to streets and pelted stones on the joint team of police and paramilitary CRPF deployed in the area for imposition of curbs in the area.
Besides curbs in Trehgam, the authorities have imposed strict restrictions in Kupwara town and its adjoining areas.
The internet services have also been snapped since last night in parts of north Kashmir including Kupwara, Handwara and Sopore.
The district administration has ordered closure of all educational institutions including Schools and colleges in Kupwara district for today.
The government on Thursday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of a 20-year-old youth in government firing last evening at Trehgam area of Kupwara.
Meanwhile, official sources said that police filed an FIR 46/ 2018 under section 148, 149, 323, 307, 336 RPC has been registered in police station Trehgam with regard to the incident.
