Jammu's Paediatricians pledge to support Measles Rubella Campaign

JAMMU, Aug 13: A sensitization workshop was organized for all paediatricians of Jammu Division by Directorate of family welfare, MCH and immunisation J&K, for the upcoming measles rubella campaign in the state.
India is committed to the goal of measles elimination and control of rubella/ CRS (congenital rubella syndrome) by 2020. To achieve this goal, Measles- Rubella (MR) campaign is being launched in the country covering all children of 9 months to below 15 years of age group in phased manner. Till now 19 states have been covered and more than 9.5 corer children have been vaccinated with MR vaccine in the country. In the workshop the entire Paediatricians solicited their support for the Campaign and asserted that this Campaign will help to prevents children being infected with the measles and rubella virus. Measles is a highly infectious disease that continues to kill many of our infants and young children. Rubella Infection in pregnant women disables a child for life with congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) that may result in deafness, blindness and heart defects. The workshop was chaired by Dr Rekha Harish professor HoD of Paediatrics SMGHS Hospital Jammu, Dr L D Bhagat Assistant Director Family welfare Jammu, Dr Sanjay Turki CMO Jammu, Dr Sunil Dutt President IAP Jammu Chapter, Dr GS Sani Professor Department of Paediatrics SMGHS Hospital & Dr DB Gupta Senior renowned Paediatrician, workshop was facilitated by Dr Srinivasan and Dr Ravinder Pal Singh from World health organisation, the workshop was attended by all leading Paediatrician of Jammu division. All the doctors took oath to guide the community for getting their children vaccinated against these dreadful diseases during Measles Rubella campaign irrespective of the previous vaccination status and help in achieving 100 % targeted Children from the state.
