Sanskrit Week celebration begins

JAMMU, Aug 24: Week-long celebrations in connection with Sanskrit Saptah began at Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Shri Ranbir Campus, Jammu, today. Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, President Awardee Sanskrit Scholar, former Principal, Shri Ranbir Campus and presently, Director, Sanskrit Gurukul, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof. Hari Narayan Tiwari, Head of the Vyakaran Department was the Learned Key Note Speaker (Saraswat Atithi) on the occasion. The Inaugural Function was presided over by the Principal, Prof. Vasudev Sharma.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri said that some people live by Sanskrit and some others live for Sanskrit, and dedicate their whole life to the promotion and propagation of Sanskrit. Expressing his anguish at the erosion of ethical values today, he said that it is absolutely essential that people should realize the significance of ethical values and make effort to inculcate these values in their daily life. He said that the prime purpose of organizing the Sanskrit Week Celebrations is to defend the Indian civilization, the Shastras and Sanskrit. The public at large should be made aware of the significance of Sanskrit as well as our glorious culture and civilization. He also exhorted the authorities to make Sanskrit compulsory in J&K Schools till 10th class (Matric). He also pointed out the vicious campaign by some vested interests to spread disinformation about Acharya Degrees and said that they are valid all over the country, including J&K. He also referred to the problems faced by the contractual teachers in the Sansthan campuses and expressed the hope that they should soon be regularized.
Earlier, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Mahapatra welcomed the guests, whereas Dr. Nigam Pandey presented the Vote of Thanks. Dr. D. Dayanath recited the Vaidic Mangalacharana.
The Programme was ably conducted by the Convener of the Sanskrit Week Celebrations, Dr. Satish Kumar Kapoor.
