Rajnath Singh disapproves Ravinder Raina comments on NN Vohra

New Delhi, Aug 31: Home Minister Rajnath Singh today disapproved, Ravinder Raina, the Jammu and Kashmir BJP president 's comments on NN Vohra and said that the former governor had been an outstanding officer throughout his tenure in office.
Rajnath Singh said that, "The governor's is a constitutional post and he has to be impartial. NN Vohra has performed his duties with distinction and also maintained constitutional dignity," adding that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have appreciated the role of Mr Vohra as governor for 10 years.
The Home Minister's comments came after his party's Jammu and Kashmir chief was seen in a video saying that the BJP did not want to continue with Mr Vohra. In the viral video, Raina was seen bragging to people: "Ab jo Governor aya hai, woh hamara banda hai." (The new Governor is our man)."
For last 10 years, Vohra served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, until the government announced that Satya Pal Malik would replace him. A rift between Vohra and the centre on the formation of a new government in the state, was reported.
A BJP legislator from Nowshera, Raina has been included in controversies. He was alleged of assaulting Independent legislator Engineer Rashid for hosting a "beef party", in 2015.
Since June 20, the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been under Governor's rule, after the BJP ended its coalition government with Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party or PDP, saying it was "untenable" to continue because of security concerns and rising terrorism.
The home minister said "Satya Pal Malik's long political experience will be beneficial for the people of Jammu and Kashmir."
The 71 year old Malik, a former lawmaker and Bhartiya Janata Party's national vice president. Earlier this month, he was sworn in as the 13th governor of Jammu and Kashmir which ended the five-decade-long practice of retired bureaucrats being appointed to the post.
Vohra was a former Union Home and Defence Secretary besides being a principal secretary to former PM, IK Gujral.
Singh's statement came after president of BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit Ravinder Raina was heard purportedly saying in a video that the party did not want to continue with Vohra and "our own man" has now been appointed as a new Governor replacing Vohra. Raina has also allegedly said that Vohra used to tom-tom his own achievements.
