5 persons including infant killed in Gandoh landslide

Kishtwar, Sept 24: In a tragic incident, five persons including an infant were killed after a Shanty (Khota) was hit by a landslide during the last intervening night in village Bhatoli in Gandoh Sub Division of Doda District, some 70 KM from Kishtwar. As per the details, the tregedy struck after the landslide hit the house of Noor Mohammad Son of Mehar Din resident of Bhatoli in which five persons including an infant died. The incident took place following heavy rains that lashes many part of the state including Doda and Kishtwar Districts of Chenab Valley.
Following the incident, the police and the locals immediately rush to the spot and launched rescue and relief operation, but could not save the lives of those buried under the rubble of the house and the huge boulders triggered due to landslide.
According to police sources, the deceased persons were identified as Bashir Ahmad (28) son of Noor Mohammad resident of Bhatoli, his wife Nagina Begum (24), Zulfa Banoo (11) daughter of Noor Mohammad, Mohammad Sharief (9) son of Showkat Ali and a two year old minor all Resident of Bhatoli.
However, a cow and a Buffalo were recovered alive from the spot.
Meanwhile in another rescue operation yesterday evening, 15 year old boy Sohan Lal Son of Mohan Lal Resident Ghariya Kalan Chenani was rescued after he trapped in a flash flood trigger due to heavy rainfall.
The rescue team was led by Naib Tehsildar Chenani Saleem Mohammad and Naib Tehsildar Sudmahadev Mohammad Rafiq with the help of police and locals and after hectic efforts, the life of the teenage boy was saved.
