The arrest of Naikoo's father coincided with the setting ablaze of at least three houses of militant families in Shopian, allegedly by security forces. Those abducted included close relatives of some senior police officials, including at least two Deputy SPs, an SHO and a Sub-Inspector.
Naikoo announced their release via an audio message circulated over social media: "We have released them for now, but the policemen should learn a lesson and be aware that we can harm their families at will." He said the war was not against the policemen, but the militants were being pushed to take extreme steps. "The next time we abduct their kin, they should know we can't keep them for long. And they know we have only one way of punishment," Naikoo said It means that wards of policemen were abducted to force the police to release Naikoo's father. Also it meant that wards of policemen do not join the police and avoid facing the wrath of militants otherwise more policemen and their stations will come under attack They (militants) knew that police were after them and some of them could be killed for abductions. |
