Bilawal and Nawaz hold Imran responsible for his political debacle
9/25/2018 10:35:47 PM
Is it Pakistan Government's diplomatic debacle when Prime Minister, Imran Khan, invited India to talks to discuss all issues including terrorism? Well Imran Khan had good intentions by inviting India to talks and was specific about a possible meeting between India's External Affairs Minister and Pakistan's Foreign Minister. He did not choose either India or Pakistan for talks. He was specific about these talks could place by the sidelines of meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York. As a new Prime Minister he wanted to promote peace which was possible by ending decades long friction and tension between Islamabad and New Delhi. But what was the impact of Khan's new initiative? Pakistan's two major opposition parties have questioned the "haste" shown by Prime Minister Imran Khan in making efforts to mend ties with India and held him responsible for the "diplomatic debacle", saying he should have done his "homework" before approaching for a meeting.
Khan had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking to re-start bilateral talks on key issues "challenging the relationship" including on terrorism and Kashmir. India initially agreed to a meeting between Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York this month. However, New Delhi has called off the meeting citing the brutal killing of three policemen in Kashmir and release of postal stamps of Burhan Wani the most dreaded Hizbul Mujahideen militants who had been killed in encounter with the security forces that led to spate of incidents of violence. It was the job of the two opposition parties, PML(N) and Pakistan Peoples' Party that were made to eat the dust in the recently held elections to berate Imran Khan for his political debacle.
In fact there was no political debacle on his part because the world was awaiting Imran Khan's first sixer. But while trying for a sixer he was bowled out allowing a chance to the PML(N) and PPP to avenge their defeat in the elections. Imran was quite candid in his letter to Modi but he was too lame to realise the machinations of the Pakistan Army that has been the villain behind the screen. It would take time to study and understand these machinations of the Pakistan Army and by the time he is able to understand he may be knocked out of the field depending on the mood of the Army. If Imran Khan toes the line of Pakistan Army he is safe in his seat. If he does otherwise he may not be safe.
