BJP's brand of Pseudo secularism
Omkar Dattatray10/14/2018 10:53:25 PM

The right wing and na
tionalist party of BJP has learnt the lessons of pseudo secularism from its erstwhile predecessor, the Indian National Congress, which is infamous throughout the country for minoritism. Now the BJP has mastered perfectly the art and practice of Pseudo secularism. It is ironic and disturbing that there is competition and one-upmanship among the political parties of pan Indian character about Pseudo secularism and minoritism. It is unfortunate scenario so far as the interests of the nation and general people are concerned. The so-called secular political parties like Indian National congress and now the right wing party of saffron color and even the regional parties of India are habitual of minority appeasement and Pseudo secularism just for vote bank politics notwithstanding the effects of sham secularism for the growth, well being and interests of the country. In fact, the political parties both of secular brigade and the right wing Hindu political party of the nation-BJP is also indulging in minority appeasement and pampering and so all the claims of BJP of development for all and appeasement to none are only rhetorical and paper slogans to hoodwink the gullible masses and to gain electoral dividends. When BJP was in opposition, its stalwart L.K Advani had coined the word of 'Pseudo secularism' for the so called secular party of India, the Indian National congress which was ruling the country. Thus BJP was habitual of attacking congress for pseudo secularism and appeasement, politics and policies. In fact, the BJP then and even now is not shying away from leveling charges and attacking congress politics for its appeasement towards minorities for its vote bank without seeing into its own sleeves. It is very strange and unfortunate that the same BJP which was and is criticizing congress for minoritism and sham secularism is now shamelessly steeping into congress's shoes and following pseudo secular politics and even out numbering Congress in this respect. The BJP led NDA government is itself pursuing pseudo secular politics just to remain in the good books of the minorities. It is also using sham secular policies for sticking to power. The BJP's brand of pseudo secularism is its own breed and is adhered by it in order to leech to power. Earlier BJP was criticizing Congress government for minority commission, minority development fund and many other things. But now the NDA government headed by BJP is not losing any opportunity to herald the pseudo secular policies and is going much ahead of the secular satraps of congress. The BJP's slogan of development for all and appeasement to none is only for political consumption and also for remaining in the limelight and media glare. NDA's skill development program and scholarship schemes for minorities are nothing but the glaring examples of minority appeasement and sham secularism. In fact, the skill development program and the scholarship schemes should be for the people and students of all religious denominations and should not be attached a minority tag. True the minorities have a right to equality and development under the constitution and they should be imparted skill development and given scholarships along with majority community. To single out minorities only for these welfare and developmental schemes is nothing but stark appeasement and farce secularism and minoritism. BJP was and is boasting that it stood for positive, genuine and true secularism but its policies and politics right from 2014 only confirm that the party is practicing sham secular policies without any shame. The right wing party of BJP needs introspection, soul searching and churning to save itself from this virus of pseudo secularism and minoritism which have eroded the distinct character of the party. Therefore, BJP is needed to translate its motto and slogan of development for all and appeasement to none into practice to save its ideologically distinct image. The party cannot befool the masses for all the time to come and in the general elections of 2019 the party will have to pay a heavy price if it sticks to its brand of pseudo secularism to deceive the gullible masses. The silly advertisements through print and electronic media for the schemes of development only for minorities will do no good either to the BJP's prospects or to the minorities but it will lead to social strife instead of communal harmony and brotherhood which is badly needed in the country. By following and adhering to the appeasement policies towards minorities, BJP is distancing itself from its core constituency and the party will have to pay heavily in the forth coming general elections. So far its own good and for the good of the nation, BJP should re-visit its brand of pseudo secularism and minoritisym and practice genuine secularism which was the core of its ideology otherwise it is only duping the masses. It follows that BJP's brand of pseudo secularism has no takers and the party and NDA government should pursue genuine secularism and shun minoritism for national good and cohesion.
