Dr.Pinky Goswami10/20/2018 10:13:05 PM
Networking is an activity which is done to build, maintain and reinforce professional relationship of trust to further goals. This kind of networking is done purely for professional goals. Professional networking has become a topic of great interest as business interests and networks goes to the international level which require access to information on a platform that random and close acquaintances cannot provide. Professional networking can help in getting job offers, making good sales. Gives an access to talent for recruitment, gives a higher social status and better access to social events inside and outside business sphere. Three things that are important in networking are building a network, maintaining the network and activating selected contacts. It is essential to add new contacts to the network in order to access as many resources as possible, and to maintain their network through staying in touch with their contacts. It is important to note here that the contacts are easy to activate when the networker has work that needs to be done. Networks supports in various ways: to receive any private information, an understanding about the diverse skill sets, and realizing the power and capacity of the individual in the professional world. Executives see these advantages at work every day. It is not only important to network but we need to also ensure that our network does not decline. But many times we are at a fix to really understand the techniques of networking. The ability to network may not be an inborn quality, but never the less it can be developed. Most importantly, one will require getting over shyness to network. While networking, it is important to feel confident about your own strengths and understand the nuances of communicating them at a right point of time. From face-to-face business conferences, to less formal coffee or after-work drinks meetings, there are also a wide variety of online and social networking methods including Face book, Twitter, LinkedIn and Blogs. It is important to know what information to be passed and how much to be passed. Most of us today enjoy passing information on our social media sites, and we do not realise that these information may hamper our professional image. These postings may even spoil our contacts. It is extremely important to understand what will support and sustain our connections. Another important skill required for intentional networking is to bear a vibrant and positive personality, one with whom anyone would love to make a relationship for professional success. Intentional Networking helps us to survive in any phase of our life. We need to engage in professional networking in order to gain access to information and tacit knowledge. It helps in establishing trust in our professional capacities and also helps us to trust others by learning about them. It helps in ensuring oneself as an authority. Professional Networking if done well is like a power backup and comes handy at all junctures whether crucial or for making our lives fun filled as many times professional friends can turn out to be best of friends lasting a life time. In this modern era it is important for all to understand the importance of networking and work towards developing the skill of intentional networking.
