Murder of Parihar brothers, collapse of Mehbooba govt has stung PDP
11/6/2018 11:59:42 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 6: The June 19 BJP's dramatic decision to withdraw its support to the Mehbooba Mufti-led coalition government and the resultant fall of her government has stung the Kashmir-based PDP. It has rattled and shocked the PDP to the extent that it is accusing the Governor's administration for the spurt in militant-related incidents both in Kashmir and the erstwhile Doda district. So much so, the PDP has virtually held the BJP and Governor SP Malik responsible for the brutal murders of BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his elder brother Ajeet Parihar in Kishtwar on November 2.
"The killing of two brothers, one of them a senior office-bearer of the state BJP, Anil Parihar, earlier this week is a chilling reminder of all that is going wrong in Jammu and Kashmir, which is witnessing a political cul de sac following the collapse of the elected government run by the PDP-BJP coalition. Not that the elected government had been able to deliver much that the unexpected and largely unpopular coalition had set forth to do, but those who had pulled it down in the hope of turning the situation around must be more worried with the extension of militancy once again to the Jammu province," the PDP has said while reflecting on the cold-blooded murder of the Parihar brothers.
"Since the fall of the Mehbooba government, there have been reports of youth joining militancy in the erstwhile Doda district. The Kishtwar incident only confirms these reports and it would mean a huge challenge for the Governor's administration to address this development in the absence of a political mechanism. Though militancy in the regions outside Kashmir can apparently never assume the dimensions of that in the Valley, because of its impact on the communal front, the government has to find a solution, sooner than later. These areas had in the past been cleared of high levels of militancy, but that owed itself to a change in the overall atmosphere of the state post 2002 elections and the Indo-Pak thaw," the PDP also said.
The PDP also patted its back and said that it was PDP-led led coalition government which, it claimed, brought the Hindus and Muslims of Jammu province closer to each other than ever before, but that has now become a story of the past. "One of the few achievements of the coalition government was the calm it had achieved on the communal front in the Jammu province with the Muslim minority, in spite of its anger against the BJP and apprehensions fed by such anti-Muslim incidents as lynchings in some parts of the country, beginning to feeling secure under the dispensation".
The PDP has, in addition, disapproved of the strong position the Narendra Modi Government and the new J&K Governor have taken on Pakistan and said that it doesn't augur well for the future of the state.
"After the spurning of talks offer from Pakistan by the Central Government and Governor Malik's strong position that Pakistan has no role in the Kashmir resolution, a political freeze has descended upon the state to accompany the climatic chill, with the snowfall coming almost two months in advance. But even before the security forces could indicate the nature of the attack on the BJP leader in Kishtwar, the Governor announced that he was killed by Pakistan," the PDP has, in effect, said.
