Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 13: Pahalgam Development Authority, which has been entrusted with the job to develop Pahalgam and save it from the encroachments, has been marred in the controversies.
Sources told Early Times that despite clear cut orders from the High Court not to allow any constructions in the area, rules are being violated and the influential are calling the shots. "The class four employees of the Authority are virtually acting as Khilafwarzi officers," sources alleged.
They said, "The Governor's administration should order a probe to find out what's happening. The probe can lead to many wrong doings coming to fore."
An insider claimed that the PDA officials rarely visit the office and only a few low rung employees are "literally managing the show." "During the past few years many illegal structures have come up in and around the Pahalgam. Surprisingly, the PDA has not taken any action against the violators," he added.
The insider said that the people running the PDA are "reaping the fruits of power" and are behaving like "monarchs." "People who can grease the palms of the concerned officials are allowed to carry out the construction and the renovation works. The ones who are not influential are made to run from pillar to the post to even get a bathroom repaired in their premises," he added.
Pahalgam health resort serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage. "Pakistan stooges and the separatists beat their chests when this pilgrimage commences. They raise hue and cry over influx of pilgrims. The do it just to gain attention and appease their bosses sitting across the Line of Control. Once the Yatra gets over they forget that Pahalgam also falls in Kashmir," said an analyst.
He said that it's during the Yatra period that Pahalgam remains clean and all the precautions are taken to ensure that eco-system of the health resort remains intact. "The Kashmiri officers, who have been entrusted with the job of preserving this resort are busy minting money at the cost of this eco-fragile area which is nestled in southern Himalayas," he added.
A Kashmir watcher said that whosoever has headed the PDA in the past has remained in the news for wrong reasons. The incumbent head of the PDA has maintained a low profile and is believed to be in the good books of his political masters. "The Governor's Administration needs to shift its focus towards the PDA and look into the allegations of corruption and nepotism prevalent there. Ordering a simple probe can just be a beginning," he added
