Chander Mohan elected Mayor, Purnima Deputy Mayor of JMC

Jammu, Nov 15: Bharatiya Janata Party councilor Chander Mohan Gupta was elected as the Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), while as BJP councilor Purnima Sharma was elected as a deputy mayor of JMC at assembly hall of JMC on Thursday.
Newly elected Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta who was Treasurer in JK unit of the BJP had won municipal election from ward number 33 in Jammu West, while Purnima Sharma had won from Ward number 1.
Gupta secured 45 votes while his arch rival, Vijay Choudhary, an Independent candidate backed by Congress party got 30 votes.
For the post of Deputy Mayor, Purnima Sharma BJP candidate polled 48 while as Charanjeet Kour of Congress party secured only 27 votes.
Gupta promised to all the residents of Jammu that he will work hard round the clock and address all the issues of the people of Jammu. "Form sweeper to Commissioner we are one family.
I along with my staff will make sure that every work is done in time. The wards which have elected us have pinned hope on us and we will visit every corner, every street to make sure voices are heard and work is done properly" the Mayor said.
Earlier, as the counting process was in its last stage, the BJP workers halted the counting process by chanting Pro BJP, Pro PM Narendra Modi slogans.
Mayor Gupta had to request BJP workers to go to back to their seat so that counting process concluded in proper manner. It was after the humble request of Mayor Gupta that counting process was resumed.
BJP State President Ravinder Raina said," BJP had registered a big win in Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
He added that there was a Mayor in Jammu from BJP; a Mayor in Kashmir has been elected by the support of BJP and in Ladakh Chief Executive Councilor is from BJP. There is BJP everywhere in this state. This victory is for the people of this country.
