Govt orders prosecution against 2 persons for election boycott posters in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 22: The State Government has accorded sanction for prosecution of two persons arrested by police for pasting posters of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit, calling for election boycott, in Kulgam district of south Kashmir .
According to an order issued by the state home department, on 17 March 2017 police station Yaripora received information that some miscreants have pasted HIM posters on electric poles by virtue of which general public was threatened not to take part in any election and boycott same with an aim "threaten the security and sovereignty" of the state .
Subsequent, police filed an FIR (21/2017) under section 13 of the unlawful Activities(prevention) Act 1967 in Yaripora Kulgam.
Police swung in action and arrested two persons Mudasir Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Moh-ud-din and Zahid Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather, both residents of Nowpora Kharpora. Police claimed that posters were also recovered from house of Mudasir. The investigation prima facie established the commission of offence punishable under section 13 ULPA Act against them.
The authority appointed by the state under sub-section (2) of section 45 o the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act independently 1967 independently scrutinized the case and all the other relevant documents related to the case and came to the conclusion that the case of the duo was fit for the grant of prosecution.
Accordingly, the home department accordied sanction for the prosecution of Mudasir Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Moh-ud-din and Zahid Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather, both residents of Nowpora Kharpora.
