Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 28: The faction ridden Congress today witnessed open spar in front of the AICC secretary incharge Shakeel Ahmad and Sanjeev Sharma when the duo were taking suggestions from the senior party leaders to rejuvenate Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
In the heated exchange of words between former ministers Sham Lal Sharma and Jugal Kishore Sharma, several other senior leaders also joined the spar, which continued for more than half an hour till the meeting ended abruptly.
The high voltage drama took place at the Congress headquarters here this afternoon when Shakeel Ahmad and Sanjeev Sharma were taking meeting of the party district presidents, former ministers and legislators, in presence in PCC president G A Mir.
The meeting was organized for taking suggestions from the senior leaders to rejuvenate the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Suggesting the party high command not to ignore Jammu and Hindu sentiments, former minister Sham Lal Sharma alleged that Kashmir centric policy was cause of party defeat in the State. He further suggested that the party should project new faces and avoid repeating those who have lost elections for two consecutive terms. Sham Lal did not stop here and gave the example of Jugal Kishore Sharma who lost Assembly elections for the two consecutive terms, and said that if the later was under impression to win this time, he was under wrong impression.
Taking this remark as personal attack on him, Jugal Kishore Sharma stood up and accused Sham Lal of misleading the party against him. It led to heated exchange of words between the two who hurled personal allegations against each others.
Soon some other leaders, including Thakur Balwan Singh and Hari Singh also joined the spar and tried to corner Sham Lal Sharma, who alleged that PCC president G A Mir was responsible for defeat of party in the recently held Local Body polls. The high voltage drama continued for more than half an hour till Sham Lal Sharma left the meeting.
Shocked over this open war of words, both Shakeel Ahmad and Sanjeev Sharma preferred to end the meeting without arriving at any conclusion.
