| `Defeated' sarpanch from Ghat Block demands recounting of votes | | |

Doda, Nov 30: Aggrieved over results of the Hanch Panchayat elections, Ghat Block in Doda district one of the Sarpanch contestants complained to the District Panchayat Election Officer Doda alleging fraud in the counting of votes and demanded a recount. The candidate identified as Mohammad Hanief Butt S/o Mohammad Abdullah Butt R/o Hanch. He alleged that fraud during the counting of votes to support the opposite candidate.
While talking to Early Times, Mohammad Saleem Malik relative of the Sarpanch candidate said that after completion of voting, counting was started in late hours about 6 pm in extremely poor light. He has doubted the fairness of the counting and the result as the petitioner was declared defeated by a very margin of 2 votes. The petitioner, he said was forced to sign the result. That the petitioner along with his supporters had already informed the police about the mischief being played and even DPO was informed about it but no arrangements for a transparent and accurate counting was made.
Similarly, same complaint was made by another Sarpanch candidate Anuradha from Kuddhar-A block Kastigarh of Doda district where election was held on 20 November; Jeevan Lal said. The Candidate and locals of the Hanch & Kuddhar-A submitted the complaint to District Panachayat Election Officer Doda and demanded for recounting of the counts of the votes of Panchayat Hanch and Kuddhar-A or re-polling with EVM. |
