Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 10: The shortage of Works Supervisors hampers working of Public Works (Road and Building) department as a single Works Supervisor is deployed with four Junior Engineers.
However, as per requirement two works supervisors must be posted with a Junior Engineer.
Works Supervisor Association President told Early times that as per department's sanctioned strength the PWD of Jammu Province has over 300 posts of work supervisors but due to lackadaisical approach of higher official only 200 are working in Jammu province.
"The department concerned didn't conduct DPC for the last six years due to which over 100 posts of work supervisors are lying vacant. We already apprised the concerned higher authorities for our long awaited demands but no action has been taken so far," he said. .
He accused the higher authorities of showing no interest towards the long awaited demands nor has any step been initiated. "The cadre of works supervisors is facing injustice since a long time.
We have been working in the department and many of us have completed even more than thirty years but still serving as works supervisors only," he said.
"We were recruited as works supervisors and also retire as the same. There is no scope of promotion for us.
No DPC is conducted by the department itself. No seniority list is issued by the department leaving no scope of promotion," he said. .
he said the strength of works supervisors has been reduced with no new recruitment.
"We have already appealed to the concerned higher authorities to kindly implement the same work, same grade which is not being implemented in our department but persons recruited in other departments are getting different grade for the same work being performed by them.
We have been raising our voice but till date no step has been taken by the department in this direction," he added.
Repeated calls to PE(R&B) Department, Chief Engineers Jammu was not available for comments.
