Jammu, Jan 20: The 28th Alka Memorial Mathematical Competition was held today in the Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu, Jammu, in which more than 150 students of various Colleges and Universities of this region (including Govt. Degree College Leh) participated. The results of this competition shall be announced in the first week of February 2019 after the conclusion of the One Day Students' Conference on 31-01-2019. Also, the winners shall be honored Mathematics, University of Jammu, Jammu. Jammu Mathematical Society (JMS) formed in 1990 by the Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu involving all Degree Colleges of Jammu region with the sole purpose of giving a necessary exposure to students of this region in the field of Mathematics so as to ensure the growth and development of Mathematics in this part of the country. Besides organizing national and international conferences/seminars/symposia/workshops continuously since 1990, the society initiated two other academic activities for the students at UG and PG levels in 1992 namely, Alka Memorial Mathematical Competition (AMMC) and One day Students' Conference. Alka Memorial Mathematical Competition is an objective type test based on College and University syllabus of Mathematics and ten students of each college and each University participate in this competition. On the basis of merit obtained in this test, 1st , 2nd and 3rd positions each in UG category and PG category are decided and at the Annual Conference of JMS, a certificate of merit and a token of encouragement is presented to these position holders.
