Chenab valley witnesses heavy snowfall

Jammu, Feb 7: The Chenab Valley witnessed heavy snowfall distupting normal life and forcing the PDD to snap electric supply as a precautionary measure.
As per the details available with "Early Times" Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas witnessed massive snowfall since last evening and continued till this report was filed.
Areas like Bhunzwah, Chatroo, Padder, Nagsni of Kishtwar District, Gundow, Bhaderwah, Marmat and other areas of Doda District also witnessed heavy to moderate snowfall as a result of which all these areas were cut off from the rest part of the state as well as district headquarter.
The authorities said that the final decision with regard to allowing any traffic on Kishtwar-Jammu Highway will be taken after assessing the condition of the road and over night snowfall added that their is not any possibility to clear the National Highway tomorrow as well since it is snowing still heavily in twin Districts of Chenab valley.
The official sources informed that the traffic on Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway has been suspend due to triggering of landslide in Assar, Kuligard area.
The senior officials of the administration also held a detail meeting with the officials of various departments and directed the R&B Officials to keep man and machinery for snow clearance ready as and when required.
SSP Kishtwar along with President and Vice President Municipal Committee Kishtwar also take round of Kishtwar town and its peripheral areas to access the situation.
The divisional authorities also directed the Power Development Department Officials to take speedy remedial measures to restore the electricity in the Kishtwar town, Doda Town, Bhaderwah town and its adjoining areas as and when the weather improves, beside also directed the officials and the HODs not to leave the station without the permission of the administration.
Meanwhile the tall claims of the state government falls flat as fresh snowfall created havoc at many places resulted into landslides and road blockade, beside the temperature in many areas of Jammu Division witness massive drop as a result of which cold wave engulfed Chenab valley, Reasi after high altitude areas of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban Districts witness fresh snowfall.
When contacted senior officials said that the situation is being closely monitored added that men and machinery has been kept ready for road clearance. They said that due to heavy snowfall, the road clearance work is hampered, added that as and when weather improves the road clearance work on both the National Highway will be started with immediate effect.
Meanwhile due heavy rain and Snowfall form last several hours in Kishtwar, the rain and snow water created havoc in many areas of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas after drains within Municipal Committee Kishtwar and on Kishtwar main road from Malipath to Sangrabata was chocked; as a result of which water spills on roads and lanes which also enter into residence and shops in many areas of Kishtwar town downside.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the worst affected areas due to rain and snow water and floods were Guldhali Chowk, Amar Market, Bhandari Mohallah, Kichloo Mohallah, Guriyan, Bunastan and Malik Market, ITI, Shaheedi Mazar, Hospital Chowk where the flooded water enter into some houses and shops in low lying areas as well as homes alongside the chocked drains.
As per the inhabitants, the under construction and outdated drains in the town has become a matter of concern for them and other people traveling in the town added that due to fault of the NHIDA department, the contractor and the Municipality officials, the innocent people who after toiling hard are constructing their homes were facing the miseries and burnt of the Contractor and Departmental apathy. They said that the road from Bus Stand to Kuleed Chowk lacks proper drainage .
The people urged upon the senior officials of the department to look into the matter and prevent them from day to day miseries which people suffered due to this road which is under construction since last over two decades.
Similarly the inhabitants of Umar Mohallah also suffered due to non availability of proper drainage. The entire water coming from top of the hillside with NHPC colony uphill side, the rain and snow water spills on the road cause lot of inconvenience to the inhabitants.
