Jat Sabha, Chhotu Ram Sabha to honour recipients of gallantry awards in Katra on Feb 10

JAMMU, Feb 7: Jat Sabha, Chandigarh and Deenbandhu Choudhary Chhotu Ram Sabha, Jammu will jointly honour the recipients of Param Vir Chakra, Veer Chakra, Kirti Chakra, war widows and promising players at a national level function to be held in Katra on the occasion of Basant Panchami and Chhotu Ram Jayanti on February 10, stated President Basmati Rice Growers Association Choudhary Dev Raj while briefing media in Jammu .
While Union Minister Chaudhary Birendra Singh will be the chief guest on this occasion, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik will preside over the function. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh will also grace the occasion.
He further said that a 'Yatri Niwas' for the night stay of devotees, coming to pay obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu & Kashmir from across the country, would be built jointly by both Sabhas in Katra at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Such a huge infrastructure in Katra will be the first ever building in which devotees will get all kind of facilities.
He told that Ch. Chottu Ram's birth anniversary is celebrated every year on the occasion of Basant Panchami and for the first time, the birth anniversary is being celebrated at Katra at national level on February 10. Union Minister Birendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik and Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh will lay the foundation stone of Yatri Niwas in Katra on the same day. They would also unveil the statue of Ch. Chottu Ram on this occasion.
In addition to the recipients of Veer Chakra, Param Vir Chakra, the war widows, sportsmen of outstanding talent, social workers doing commendable work in various fields and the winning students of poster making competition will also be honored on this occasion.
Ch Chotu Ram always worked for the welfare of poor and downtrodden section of the society. There is a need to take forward his legacy so that youth could get inspiration from Ch Dev Raj, said.
