Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 25: Seventeen days after the devastating snowfall, more than three lakh population of Kishtwar District and over 2 Lakh population of Doda and Ramban districts are without electricity.
The Power Development Department Officials though managed to restore the electricity in Doda and Ramban headquarters respectively, but majority of the areas of Kishtwar district are still without electricity following collapse of half a dozen towers of 132 KV NHPC Transmission Line that provides electricity to Doda and Kishtwar districts.
Speaking to "Early Times" a senior officer in PDP said that NHPC and TLMD Division Udhampur has reset the deadline for restoration of electricity to Kishtwar District by another 72 or 96 hours added that the 132 KV transmission line will be restored to Kishtwar by 28-02-2019 or by next day I.e 1-3-2019. He said that 65% work on account of installation of towers and 13 Meter poles to bypass the towers has been completed.
He said that the work on damaged tower at Katarsamna Grid Kishtwar is also going on at full swing and same will be completed before the restoration of 132 KV NHPC transmission line.
He said that work on restoration of 33 KV line to Chatroo will be completed in next few days while areas like Padder, Sarthal and far flung areas of Bhunzwah will take another 10-12 days.
He said that the electricity in some parts of the Bhunzwah from Thathri has been restored adding that the 33 KV transmission Line to Gandoh area having population of nearly 50000 has also been restored, but it soon developed some technical snag which is being looked into as a result of which the temporary transmission line which currently provides electricity to Kishtwar also got snapped.
He said that once the fault will be restored, Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas will continuously get one hour electric supply after every four hours.
In a question on exemption on monthly bills, the officer said that under rule if there is no electricity for 15 days, no rent is being charged from the consumers in non metered areas while in metered areas, the rent is based on the existing meter reading.
Similarly more than two lakh population in adjoining Doda and Ramban District are also without electricity since last three weeks. The official said that the restoration of electricity in all villages of Chenab valley will take around three weeks in restoration added that the infrastructure suffered more than Rs 10 Crore damages due to heavy snowfall.
