JU to get Major Research Boost- Prof Dhar

Jammu April 23: University of Jammu and CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the recent visit of Dr. Anil Koul, Director CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh. On behalf of University of Jammu, the MOU was signed by Prof.Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu.

University of Jammu has been for past some time striving to build collaborations and synergy with institutes of national and international importance. In this regard, University of Jammu and CSIR-IMTECH initiated the process of collaboration sometime back. The efforts of two institutions culminated in an official agreement towards building opportunities for students, researchers and faculty at both the campuses.

According to Prof. Dhar, this collaboration with internationally acclaimed institute such as CSIR-IMTECH will play an important role in building a globally competent academic and research system in the University. He said that the broad framework of the partnership aims at conducting joint collaborative research in areas of medicinal chemistry, material science, molecular biology, bioinformatics etc. as well as exploring joint grant opportunities. This MoU will also facilitate exchange of students, scholars and faculty to the mutual benefit of both the institutions.

It is noteworthy to mention here that CSIR-IMTECH is one of the top-most Biotechnology institutes in the country. It comprises of team of scientists having cutting edge R&D expertise in the areas of: Cloning & expression of recombinant/engineered proteins &their scale-up, understanding/manipulating proteins and their engineering, protein structure determination through X-ray crystallography, Molecular microbiology of pathogens especially with respect to drug resistance & vaccine development, Immunology of infectious diseases, Yeast Genetics, Screening of microorganisms for novel enzymatic activities and strain improvement, Bioinformatics & high end computational biology, Microbial taxonomy and metagenomics, and allied areas like technology and business management and intellectual property protection.

Prof. Kamal K Kapoor along with Dr Raman Parkesh, Prinicipal Scientist, CSIR-IMTECH coordinated logistics of the MoU signing event.

Among others, Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean, Research Studies, Prof RajniKant, Director, DDE, Prof R K Ganjoo, Director, CDC, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, Deans of the University, Heads of the Science Departments, Rector/Directors of offsite campuses, Dr Dharmendra Magotra, JR Finance and other officials of the University were also present on the occasion
