NIA continues crackdown on terror funding, summons separatist Zafar Akbar to Delhi
5/10/2019 2:24:29 PM
New Delhi: In yet another sweep against terror funding in the Kashmir Valley in the aftermath of the massive crackdown, following the February 2019 Pulwama terror attack which claimed over 40 CRPF jawans’ lives, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has issued summons to Hurriyat leader and JK Salvation Movement chairman Zafar Akbar for questioning.

Sources said the NIA has asked Akbar to present himself before investigators at NIA’s New Delhi head office on May 11.Earlier, the premier investigation agency had arrested and questioned several separatists such as Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

NIA had arrested Yasin Malik in a terror funding case. His organisation, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), is facing charges of kidnapping and murder for being allegedly involved in abducting Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of the then Union Home Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, in 1989, and killing four Indian Air Force personnel in 1990.The organisation was recently banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In February, the NIA carried out raids in seven locations in Srinagar in connection with the terror funding case. JKLK chairman Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabbir Shah, Mohammad Ashraf Khan, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Masarat Alam and Naseem Geelani, son of Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani were raided.
