Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 11: A highly poisonous snake was caught from the residence of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Gupkar here putting the security agencies in panic.
The snake that was around four feet long was spotted in the lawns of the former CM, who lives on the foothills of Shankarachariya hills, the sources said adding the incident took place on May 10.
Sources said the security forces at his residence were seen in panic as they immediately called on the concerned authorities.
Sources said those present at the residence of Omar Abdullah were asked not to move out till the reptile was caught.
Sources said the police informed the Wildlife authorities who rushed in a team of experts to the residence of the former CM who is also the working President of National Conference.
"Team of experts immediately trapped the snake and put in a box," the sources said.
Officials said the snake was straight taken away to Dachigam National Park that is some ten miles away from the spot. "The snake was released there," said a official on the condition of anonymity.
While the security agencies are looking into the possible reasons of the snake having been found at the secured residence , the wildlife experts said the reptile could have sneaked in from nearby forests on the Shankarachayra hills.
Sources said a team of wildlife experts are likely to sent on assignment to see if more such snakes could be there in the area. "The area is housed by VIPs and it needs to be seen if more such snakes could be there because such snakes are poisonous and can lead to death of their prey," said a wildlife official on the condition of anonymity.
Omar Abdullah's house in particular is likely to searched to rule out presence of any more snakes.
Sources said the area locals have kept their windows and door to avoid any snake from entering their homes.
Despite repeated attempts, Omar Abdullah couldn't be contacted for comments.
