Early Times Report
Jammu, May 20: In total violation of Water Resource Act 2010 and directions of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, the encroachment of state land as well as seasonal rivulet has been going on unabated at New Bus Stand Samba.
Surprisingly, the officers of Municipal Committee Samba have shut their eyes, allegedly after finalizing a deal with the encroachers while the district administration has maintained a silence over the issue, due to some unknown reasons.
Sources informed Early Times that just opposite of New Bus Stand Samba, some people have been engaged in construction of a shopping complex, measuring over 100 feet.
"A seasonal rivulet was passing from the area, which was initially converted into a cemented nullah and now the encroachers have openly covered the nullah with cemented construction", locals of the area informed adding that the construction work has been going on for the last over one month but the Municipal Committee officials, who have been passing through the area every-day, have deliberately shut their eyes, which pointed towards his active involvement.
Sources alleged that the encroachers have a truck with some officials of the Municipal Committee who negotiated a deal with the encroachers. "After getting huge sum of money from the encroachers, the officials of municipality as well as revenue department have remained mum", sources said, adding that more such encroachments have also been made in the area in the recent past.
The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir had passed orders prohibiting construction within 200 meters on both sides of the water body but in Samba water body has been opened encroached in total violation of the standing orders while the district administration was also a mute spectator over the matter.
