Early Times Report

Jammu, May 28: President of Kissan Sabha Hari Chand Jalmeria, in a specially convened meeting at its Jammu headquarter, has constituted its Jammu Provincial Committee.
The members of the Committee are Uday Chand, Dewan Chand, Ramankant Singh, Master Swarn Singh, Master Paras Ram, Tek Chand Spolia, S. Hari Singh, Ravi Singh Bhau, Rashpal Singh, Shanker Singh, Ravi Kumar, Mulakh Raj Sharma, Romesh Singh. The Kisan Sabha Provincial Committee, discussed the issues of the farmers of Jammu Province.
Jalmeria, while speaking on the occasion said that farmers who comprise over 75% of the country's population have been left far behind in the comparative development of society.
They are not getting profitable prices for their agricultural produce, they lack marketing facilities in the rural areas, their children are not getting quality education and jobs, due to regressive policies of Govt. towards farmers they are forced to divert to other fields and sell their lands. Conversion of use of agricultural and irrigated land for non agricultural purposes like building housing colonies, banquet halls, brick kilns, shopping malls, has put a big challenge to the existence of the agriculture and the farmers dependent on it.
Jalmeria added that the authorities remain silent spectator and work against the interest of the farmers. The other members of the Committee said that the enormous growth of Monkey population has forced most of the farmers in Kandi and hilly belt to abandon agriculture and horticulture pursuits.
Lack of irrigation facilities, non availability of seed and fertilizers on time and their sky rocketing prices have strained the farming profession. The border areas farmers face uncertainty due to unpredicted firing from across the border/LOC. Their cattle also perish and houses get damaged.
