Early Times Report

Jammu, June 11: After the income tax raids at the residence of the prominent businessman in Srinagar and subsequent statement of the department hinting at the fraudulent means adopted for the tax evasion, the question remains whether this merchant in question would continue to hold a vital pots in Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
The trader in question had earlier issued a statement in which he stated that he will give full support to the income tax team and will cooperate with them. Now, when the income tax department itself has revealed that there where clear attempts being made by this business to evade taxes, it becomes nothing but natural that he cannot hold any official position in the government till the inquiry is over, chargesheet is filed.
The social media also remained abuzz on Tuesday over what will be the next move of Governor Satya Pal Malik whose office as per the sources is keeping a close watch on all the developments.
Speculations meanwhile are rife that the merchant in question would be asked to step down from his position which at present he is holding at Srinagar Municipal Corporation. He is also a member of the political party that claims to be striving to provide an alternative to dynastic politics in the state and prove people a 'very clean governance'. The million dollar question remains that whether this particular political group which is new over the horizon in the state come to his rescue or disown him to secure its image in the public eye. The trader has been caught between devil and the deep sea.
Earlier, last month, on Social media, his joining the new political group had become a laughing stock with people sharing his past video clips in which he could be heard spitting venom against the same party and Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation- Junaid Azeem Matoo. There were also Hashtags circulated widely titled Mujahid Bangaya Chowkidar. Soon after the BJP had launched a digital campaign of prefixing the name of its leaders with Chowkidar, Imran had sought to counter the narrative and had declared himself a Mujahid on social media platforms. The netizens are asking now whether it will be Mujahid Chowkidar or Chowkidar Mujahid being prefixed before his name.
This trader turned politician was at the receiving end of the peoples' wrath when he last year he ridiculed an on doctor duty in one of the government hospital. People even then questioned his role and authority in poking his nose into the matters that are beyond the reach of his reason and mandate.
The doctors at the Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar then protested against the "misbehavior" with their colleagues.
Carrying placards, the doctors protested against the misbehavior of the politician in question. They said that his interference in the hospital matters was uncalled for. They said that he used abusive language with the doctors.
He was later forced to apologise before the doctors for transgressing the limits and speaking beyond his authority.
