Early Times Report

Jammu, June 14: The Forum of Engineers and tech staff, with engineers and staff of different wings of Power development department today held a strong protest wearing black badges at Chief engineer, EMRE PDD, Canal road Office on the issue of manhandling of Junior engineer while on official duty by miscreants at Pounichak Grid station.
The Engineers strongly condemned the action of the unruly Mob and that too when the manhandling took place inside the grid station premises.
The incident took place when the Junior Engineer was on duty and maintaining the power supply from the said Grid station.
The miscreants among the mob manhandled the staff and also snatched keys of vehicle and other utilities of the staff and forcibly ransack the Grid premises in a bid to instill fear among the staff.
Engineers and Feeder managers appealed to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, SSP Jammu to intervene in the matter and Deputy Commissioner Jammu and SDM be instructed to prevail on the Police to provide security arrangements at Grid/receiving stations and apprehend such miscreants immediately who prevent the Govt. Official from doing his/her legitimate duty.
Engineers expressed their deep anguish over the approach of the Police as they have failed to provide security at such vital installations like Grid and receiving stations in the Jammu Province thereby putting the lives of the tech staff at risk that are already under stress due to Grid capacity constraints and maintaining the supply side schedule.
It is therefore sought that adequate security arrangement be provided at the vital Grid and receiving stations fed from Canal, Pounichak, Janipur, Gladni, Barn of the Jammu region so that such incidents do not happen and life of the staff is not endangered.
Moreover the Police authorities should patrol the areas where work during power breakdown is under progress in order to keep in check the bad elements .
The engineers and staff demanded that Police should take strict action against the miscreants so that the morale of the staff is not hurtled and staff feels sense of security while performing their duties at these places.
It was exhorted upon the Engineers and staff of all cadres to be united and prepared for a struggle in order to seek justice for the fraternity.
