Early Times Report

Udhampur, June 18: The pond at village Phangial about 3 kms from Udhampur town is in pathetic condition. Garbage and weeds have rendered the water unfit for human and animal consumption.
Pertinently the pond is the only source of water for over 150 households.
A local resident informed that a concrete layer around the water body with concrete stairs for going into it is the long pending demand of the locals which despite several assurances has not yet fulfilled.
He also said that bushes around the water body should be cleared at first and then construction work should be started on it so that the village also gets a facelift along with facility of water from this pond.
Some locals also told to early Times that the authorities concerned should make such a system that maximum of the rain water gets stored in the pond.
They have also started making the people aware so that they can maintain cleanliness of the water body. However, the authorities concerned have not even installed a board or hoarding near the water body for educating people about cleanliness.
Experts opine that if the maintenance of the water body is not properly done then its water may become contaminated. Locals have appealed to the DC to look into the matter.
