Pandits are a divided lot as far as their return to valley is concerned
6/20/2019 12:09:19 AM

As is expected Kashmiri Pandits are a divided lot. Most of these migrants, who work under the banner of Panun Kashmir, are yearning for a Homeland within the valley. But the other section, who met Kashmir Mirwaiz, Molvi Umar Farooq have recently debated with him the issue of living in separate colonies. However, the Maulana argued with a group of Kashmiri Pandita that living in separate colonies will not benefit them. They should on their return have composite living as they have been doing for the last several decades yes the most of callers on Molvi Umar Farooq agreed to it .But what about their ancestral land and houses. Most of the migrants have sold their houses and land and the main buyers have been their Muslim neighbours. Hence the suggestion given by the Maulana is untenable. First of as chairman Awami Action Committee he has to organise resale of land and houses but in Most of the cases such a solution is impossible. Muslim neighbours have changed the contour and the complex of the land and houses bought from Pandita.
The other vocal section wants Homeland within the valley. After the split of Panun Kashmir not many demand the Homeland. Yes getting a Homeland is somewhat difficult and not possible within the framework of the social fabric of the valley. To seek a Homeland is risky and if in 1990 hooligans were responsible for forcing 3.50 lakh Pandits to flee and their first resort was Jammu why not these hooligans force yet another migration? Another migration is not impossible. That is why separatists wish Pandita to be back but not in separate colonies. When separatists are not prepared to allow Pandita, on their return, to live separate colonies why should they concede the demand for a Homeland?
The state governments and the centre should pool their resources and help Pandits to return to the valley with all their dignity. And once they were assured of the government's help they are, not all but some of them, ready to travel back to Kashmir. Another section land is want to spare the summer pangs in the areas outside the valley and they would return for spending winter months in the plains and the summer months in the valley. This is another class. And what those who have settled in the plains and eke out good salary? They may not return because pre-migration day's and years have been difficult for Pandita.
