JAMMU, June 24: Students of Government Primary School Tralley in tehsil Rajgrah of education zone Batote (Ramban district) are compelled to attend thei rclasses under the open sky after the school building got damaged in strong winds two years ago.
In 2017, strong winds damaged the government school, but since then the building has not been repaired, which is a matter of worry for the parents and the students as well.
Residents of the area told Early Times that they are at loss to understand why repairing the school building does not appear to be a priority with the authorities concerned.
In the first place, they said, one fails to understand who had approved the hilly hamlet for construction of a school, as the the topography of the area is in a zigzag shape. "The authorities concerned should have constructed the building in a plain area," said Ishtiyaq Ahmad of tehsil Rajgrah. He said that it was expected that the building would get damaged in strong windstorm.
Around 40 students are on rolls in this primary school for which two teachers were appointed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme.
Meanwhile, the damage to the building also suggests that substandard material was used in its construction, some locals added.
In past the teachers and locals of the area had made many representations before the concerned authorities including ZEO, CEO and other higher officials, but still the building was not repaired due to which students are suffering badly.
Recently, ZEO has asked the teachers to shift the school to some private building and they will pay rent for the same till the building will be repaired, but due to unknown reasons the school is still functioning in the damaged building.
Irony is that the students are taking education in the kitchen shed that is used for cooking of mid-day meals, and authorities have time and again said there is no shortage of funds, despite the fact that the authorities are well aware about the problem.
Few days back, the issue of this school building was taken during 'Back to Villages' programme with the authorities concerned, said sources.
