BJP, Cong did nothing for Purani Chungi Mohalla of Ward NO. 44
Civic amenities remained unaddressed; sanitation turns to be major issue

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 8: Successive MLAs of Congress or BJP who represented the Gandhi Nagar Constituency in past, have done nothing for residents of Purani Chungi mohalla, near Railway Chowk as the civic amenities particularly unconstructed lanes and by lanes, clogged drains, lack of cleanliness are the common problems that plagued the whole locality.
Speaking to Early Times, some of the residents including Chajju Ram, Nadeem Choudhary, Gopal Dass and Daini Ram of Purani Chungi mohalla informed that however, we were living in heart of city, near Railway Chowk and opposite of Divisional Commission Office where all regional offices of every departments were established but despite all of these, we were still facing all the basic amenities.
"We are living here from last 20 years when JDA provided us a three Marala plot to every household, who were relocated from Bahu Plaza to Purani Chungi Mohalla, backside of Petrol Pump along Railway Road Jammu. Now our mohalla comes under the limits of Ward No. 44. But despite being part of posh area of Nanak Nagar, we are still depriving from all the basic civic amenities. Our lanes and by lanes are uprooted, drains are chocked which are not maintained by either by JDA or local Independent Councillor Inder Singh Soodan", said Daini Ram.
"The callousness of the sanitation authority can be gauged from this fact that on Sunday morning, the authority's employee came here to unblock a nallah passing along the railway road toward but they dumped all the silt and garbage in our lane just entrance of the lane, near Petrol Pump. The silt and garbage is emanating foul smell, and become a nightmare for local residents", said Nadeem Choudhary.
Another resident Gopal Dass said that since the JDA had established the colony, they installed streetlights in our mohalla and now not a single streetlight is functional. All of them have gone kaput. After repeated pleas to JDA for construction of lanes along the canal of Ravi Tawi canal and restoration of streetlights have yield nothing so far.
"Just after the complaint, the then JDA commissioner, forwarded the same complain to concern Executive Engineer for the redressal. Every next day, he (Executive Engineer) came here and made proposal for blacktopping of road, reconstruction of lane and drains but after lapse of one years, their proposal never executed on ground level so far, resulting we were still living in unhygienic condition", said Pawan Kumar Sharma, a local shopkeeper.
It is not saga of Purani Chungi mohalla, a another mohalla established near Directorate of Sheep Husbandry is also facing the same problems of civic amenities like their road is dilapidated and the garbage is littered here and there given the absence of dustbin, sewerage water are flowing in front of home.
'"Everyday thousands of pilgrims either of Amarnath Cave and Vaishno Devi Cave come to Jammu Railway Station for boarding and de-boarding trains but the filth and garbage littered on railway road near Petrol Pump depicts the bad image of Jammu and exposed the tall claims either of Jammu Smart City or Swaach Bharat Mission", said Surjeet Singh.
