The curious case of Sunderbani storekeeper | | | AB Sharma Early Times Report Rajouri, July 9: Want to know how much influence and power a lowly storekeeper of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department wields in Jammu and Kashmir? Sample this: for the last 4 to 5 years, a storekeeper in Sunderbani area of Rajouri has not been transferred from his current place of posting. Yes, you read it correct; Kalvinder Singh, the storekeeper in question, remains posted on the particular place for more than a decade, thanks to his strong 'connections' in the corridors of power. Singh is virtually calling the shots in the area, with no top official in the civil administration mustering courage to order his transfer, even as complaints of corruption and loot against him galore. Singh also remains un-transferred despite the fact that the transfer policy clearly mentions that a government official cannot be posted at a particular place at a stretch for more than two years. When Early Times contacted the ADC Rajouri and asked him about the curious case of Balvinder Singh, he sought to express his helplessness. "I cannot transfer the storekeeper. You should talk to Director CAPD Jammu," the ADC said. Are you listening Mr Governor? |
