Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 1: Government of India bifurcating Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories (UTs) J&K and Ladakh has turned the Kashmir centric leaders and the separatists in the valley irrelevant.
"Most of the mainstream leaders who were jailed on the day when J&K was reorganised, now have realised that they have to fall in the lines if they want to exist," an analyst told Early Times. He said, "Political scene in J&K has changed completely and it will turn upside down, after the delimitation process is completed. Kashmir politicians, who for the past 70 years have been telling the people that they are masters, have been cut to size and it looks like that New Delhi is in no mood to relent." An observer said, "Kashmir centric politicians have paid a heavy prize for appeasing the separatists and the people sitting across the line of control. The GoI with one stroke of pen has changed entire situation in J&K. The state's reorganization has ended the autonomy, self-rule and achievable nationhood theories, which the main stream politicians use to sell in the past." He said that the Kashmir centric leaders, who are under preventive detention, would have never even dreamt that one day they would be jailed.
"It took 70 years for the government of India to end hegemony of the leaders, who never made the sincere attempts to bring Kashmir into mainstream. Former chief ministers of J&K Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti till the recent past used to claim that J&K is accession with India is temporary and J&K never merged with the union. During all these years, they kept misleading the people, just derived political mileage and keep their shops running. As on date all this shops stand closed, as GoI has cracked the whip over the people, who despite being provided with all the facilities for the past seven decades remained insincere towards the national interests", the observer added.
A politician said, "The Kashmir centric leaders, have now been left with the limited option, they have to understand that India is changing fast and there is no scope for rhetoric in new India. The so-called azzadi seekers and Pakistan stooges and have been taken care of and they don't exist anymore. Pakistan too has understood that if it is keeps on harping on Kashmir that it will have faced serious repercussion."
The Politicians said, "Had Kashmir centric leaders acted responsibly, the J&K would not have lost its statehood, but their selfish approach has turned J&K into a Territory."
