DLSA launches awareness campaign on solid waste management

UDHAMPUR SEPTEMBER 02: In compliance to directions of Chief Justice of J&K High Court, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Monday launched a week long campaign regarding Solid Waste Management, no use of plastics/ polythene being conducted from 2nd to 7th of September 2019.

The campaign, launched by Chairman District Legal Services Authority Session Judge M.L Manhas, was aimed at to educate the students and the people about the need and importance of Solid Waste Management from its inception to final disposal besides cleanliness and the hazardous affects of use of Polythene/Plastics to our environment.

The campaign is being conducted under the overall supervision of Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Udhampur, Sandeep Kour in Schools, Colleges and Panchayat Ghars in association with Principals, Sarpanchs, Panchs, Corporators and Anganwadi Workers.

On the first day of the campaign, an awareness camp was organized at Town Hall for Beopar Mandal, Industries and Commerce and Rehari walas.

Chairman Municipal Council Udhampur, Dr Yogeshwar Gupta , Chief Executive Officer Santosh Kotwal , Chairman and Vice Chairman Rani Welfare Society Jammu(NGO) Savita Parihar and Advocate Kamani Thakur , Beopar Mandal President Jitender Vermani , Corporator Vikram Slathia , Suriender Khalsa and representatives of NGOs were present were present on the occasion .

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman DLSA apprised the participants and street vendors on various ways to keep our native places safe such as by discarding use of Polythene and Plastics in our day to day life. He made them aware about the hazardous affects of use of Polythene/Plastics to our environment and urged the traders to avoid usage of polythene carry-bags.

Secretary said that the DLSA team is making aware the students and general masses about their responsibility towards removal of such wastage on daily basis besides motivating them to deposit their waste as and when generated into large sized containers. She added that DLSA will organize rallies, camps, painting competitions and door to door campaigns to educate people about the need of proper disposal of solid waste.

She further added that Para Legal Volunteers of District Legal Services Authority Udhampur are making all efforts by organizing camps in various schools, colleges and Panchayat Ghars of different villages to educate the people and the students to understand and acknowledge the problem and take necessary steps for minimizing generation of Solid Waste.
