Excise Department realises fine of Rs 2.64 lakh from smugglers
'Smuggling non-iodised salt in state'

Lakhanpur, Sept 13: Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur on yesterday fined Rs 2.64 in unsuccessful attempt of smuggling of non-iodised salt into the State.
According to sources on Thursday, driver of vehicle No.RJ43GA-3139 produced a challan of iodised salt consigned by M/s Baba Ramdev Chemfood, Phalodi, Rajasthan consigned to M/s Fayaz and Company, Budgam Kashmir.
"The Assessing Officer Import (AOI) assessed the vehicle for iodised salt and allowed toll exemption under SRO 68 dated 05.02.2018 and put the vehicle for random checking", they said, adding that during the course of checking, the vehicle was found to be loaded with non-iodised salt, which is toll able and attract toll Rs.100/- per quintal.
"The offence attracts punitive action under the J&K Excise Act, Smvt 1958, and accordingly, penalty amounting to Rs.2.64 lacs on account of wrong declarations was realized and recovered from the driver", they said.
The whole operation was supervised by Deputy Excise Commissioner, Pradeep Singh Manhas and carried out by Excise and Taxation Officers, Suresh Kumar Sharma and Abdul Rehman, Inspectors Rajeev Gupta and Excise Guard Balbir Singh, Toll Post Lakhanpur.
M Raju, Excise Commissioner, J&K Government has conveyed his appreciation to the team at Toll Post Lakhanpur and has enjoined them to carry on their special drive to thwart the nefarious designs of smugglers in future also.
