KVK Jammu organises in-service training on fisheries

Jammu, Sept 26: One day in-service training programme for field functionaries of fisheries department was organised by KVK Jammu, under overall guidance of Dr KS Risam, Director Extension SKUAST-J.
The subject covered various aspects on use of immunostimulants and probiotics in aquaculture for disease management. Dr. Rakesh Sharma Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK Jammu emphasised the importance of aquaculture and its nutritional benefits as it has more than 1% contribution in agricultural GDP. The participants working in different stations of Fisheries department were invited for the program who were updated about the latest technological advancements in fishery sciences. Dr. Sahar Masood, Assoc. Prof. spoke about the commonly occurring fish diseases in Jammu region and their causes. Dr. Akhil Gupta Associated. Prof. explained the ways for overall health management of fishes.
Dr. Puneet Choudhury Sr. Scientist Agroforestry delivered his lecture on aqua forestry for additional benefits. He stressed on planting trees on the outer slope of bundhs of fish ponds. Dr. Prem Kumar, Scientist Fisheries, KVK Jammu discussed the recent technological innovations like immunostimulants, prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotic and vaccines in details which are eco-friendly and reducing the threats of antimicrobial resistance. Dr Sheetal Badyal, Scientist, H.Sc. delivered a lecture on safe value added fish products. Er. Ashish Katoch, S. Satbir Singh and Poonam Abrol, helped in organising the training programme successfully.
