'Shimla agreement only way out, other UN resolutions obsolete'
Pak faces another defeat at international front
10/3/2019 11:04:18 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 3: In yet another defeat for Pakistan at the international front, President of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Jerry Matthews Matjila has ruled out any action on Kashmir, even issuing a joint statement. "In the Council I don't see in the near future there will be a joint statement on Jammu & Kashmir," said Matjila, recalling that the divided Security Council could not even agree on one paragraph statement at its August meeting on Kashmir. "The Council was so divided that we could not even issue a single paragraph statement. We could not issue even a paragraph to say. We are appealing to both the parties to resolve the issue amicably as per Shimla accord signed when they met in Shimla. They agreed that this was the formula they were going to use," he said.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Matjila's statement has made it clear that Kashmir is no issue for United Nations and the India and Pakistan have to resolve their issues according to the Shimla accord. This means that UNSC resolutions about holding plebiscite in J&K have become obsolete and are irrelevant as Shimla accord is the only valid document with the United Nations."
It is in place to mention here that Shimla agreement signed by then India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who was then Pakistan President, says that disputes between India and Pakistan were bilateral matters to be resolved between the two leaving no room for third party involvement. And this accord has been endorsed by the United Nations too.
An observer said, "Matilja's statement has punctured the propaganda of Pakistani leaders and Pakistani stooges in the Valley that Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute. It is very much clear now that even the United Nations considers Kashmir as an integral part of India and it won't like to meddle into it as the UN has no mandate."
He said, "The lies being propagated by Pakistan have no takers in the world. This is a big slap on Imran Khan's face who since August 5 has been knocking at the doors of the different countries. The immature speech delivered by the Pakistan PM at the United Nations Security Council recently has exposed him further. It is proved beyond doubt that he is the leader of a rogue Army and a failed state which has been rechristened by all peace loving nations as Terroristan."
Another analyst said, "It is high time for Pakistan to give up its nefarious activities. If it fails to do so no one can save Pakistan from getting disintegrated."
