JAC demands rechristening of SKUAST-J as Jammu Agricultural University
10/7/2019 10:28:48 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 7: The meeting of Joint Action Committee of SKUAST-Jammu was held between the office bearers of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) and SKUAST-Non Teaching Employees Association Jammu (SKUAST-NTEA-J) under the leadership of Dr. Vikas Sharma at Main Campus Chatha in which agendas pertaining to the teaching fraternity, non teaching staff, students and labour were discussed. Chairman of JAC Dr. Vikas Sharma informed in the meeting that most of the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) in India are established in the name of the State like Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Kerala Agricultural University (KAU), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) and even University of Jammu has its own identity, so on the same pattern Agricultural University of Jammu should be named as Jammu Agricultural University (JAU). He further informed that the common name of two varsities (SKUAST-J and SKUAST-K) in the same State is creating a lot of controversies and confusions among the masses and most of the times in the past funds of SKUAST-Jammu are being transferred to SKUAST-Kashmir from ICAR and it consumes a lot of effort, energy and time to bring back the funds of our university that will further delay the process to bring the latest technologies to the door steps of farmers in far flung areas. Sh PDK Uppal Co-chairman of JAC stressed that rechristening of SKUAST-J as Jammu Agricultural University is very essential for its separate identity at State / National level and it will be a good confidence measure for the people of Jammu, who have struggled a lot for this Agricultural University.
During the meeting it was impressed upon that all the heads and nodal officers of varsity should submit the monthly bills regarding the wages of skilled / unskilled labourers in time (positively before 5th of every month) to the concerned quarters for the timely release of payment in favour of labourers. Separate playground / cricket ground for students, maintenance of basketball court / volley ball court and availability of basic things for indoor games were the other major issues discussed in this meeting of Joint Action Committee of SKUAST-Jammu. The meeting was attended by Dr. Vivek M. Arya-General Secretary-TAJ, Zamir-ul-Haq General Secretary-NTEA-J, Sh NK Raina, Divyansh Verma, Sr. Devinder Singh and other concerned members.
