Dr. Arya to get scientific leadership award from prestigious Soil Conservation Society of India

Jammu, Oct 30: Dr. Vivak M. Arya soil scientist working in SKUAST-J has been selected for the coveted scientific leadership award 2019 by prestigious Soil Conservation Society of India, New Delhi on account of his contribution in the area of climate change, soil and water conservation.
The Soil Conservation Society of India is a very old society registered in 1952 and is comprising of more than three thousand active members of high repute and excellence. The award that contains a certificate of excellence along with a medal will be presented to Dr. Arya in a award ceremony of International conference organized by Soil Conservation Society of India, New Delhi on theme Soil and water resources management for climate smart agriculture, global food and livelihood security scheduled to be held on 5th to 9th November, 2019 at New Delhi, India.
The conference will be attended by more than 500 delegates which include many distinguish scientists from 50 different countries from across the globe. The award is confirmed to Dr. Arya on his work related to nitrogen management through LCC in the pretext of climate change. Dr. Arya popularized the real time nitrogen management through LCC (leaf colour chart) in J&K which had reduced the losses of nitrogen & checked the nitrate pollution. The LCC distributed by SKUAST-J are very popular among the farming community.
Dr. Arya had adopted various scientific interventions on pilot basis for revival of village ponds in lower Shivaliks of Jammu region. His research regarding usage of resource conservation techniques (RCT's) is widely adopted for reducing the sediment yield and nutrient loss in Shivalik.He is handling four externally funded projects on the themes soil quality, climate change and natural resource management.
Dr. Arya has written more than 20 research papers in reputed international and national journals. He had authored two books, many book chapters and more than 30 popular articles. Dr. Arya has been awarded with various best research paper awards and other distinguished awards by societies & organizations of national and international reputations. He is an external expert to many prestigious universities and organizations viz. DST, DBT, ICAR, MIDH, NABARD, PAU, HPKV, IGKVV, & SKUAST-K.
