Is Jammu paying price for supporting Union's decisions?
All delegations, bureaucrats, politicians care for valley, Jammu ignored
10/30/2019 10:33:35 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 30: The statements and actions of top bureaucrats along with the happenings of the last two months in Jammu and Kashmir, since abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A, have been generating a feeling among the Jammuities that they have been totally ignored for whole-heartedly supporting the decision of Union from time to time.
In the last two months, most of the politicians from Union, senior bureaucrats, as well as the recent delegation of European Union parliamentarians, all have been concerned about the valley populace while the Jammu people have been treated as second class citizens, who have also been facing the same hardships with few exceptions.
Since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5th, top security leaders have visited the Jammu and Kashmir but only Kashmir valley and Jammu has been totally ignored.
On August 7, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval had visited militancy-infested south Kashmir and had assured the locals that their security was the government's responsibility.
It was also reported that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir but as per schedule he was supposed to visit valley only and not Jammu.
It was followed by the visit of Army Chief General Bipin Rawat who on August 30 had visited valley on his two day visit. He had reviewed the operational preparedness of the forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in the valley. Moreover on September 25, NSA Ajit Doval had visited valley for the second time and had taken stock of the security situation in Kashmir valley.
Now on October 29, a delegation of European Union parliamentarians had visited the valley to take stock of the situation and their visit was felicitated by Union government but in their schedule there was no mention of Jammu.
Even Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) leader Harshdev Singh had also taken strong exception of the EU's delegation visit to valley and ignoring Jammu.
Politicians from within the country including the opposition parties have been only concerned about the valley population and always talked about them and Jammu is not anywhere even in their imagitation.
The Jammu and Kashmir is becoming a Union Territory and the Civil Secretariat is already shifted from summer capital to winter capital Jammu but even though the main function of UT is scheduled to be held in Srinagar and not in Jammu, which is again questionable.
"Though Jammu is largely peaceful and valley is turmoil hit so priority can be Kashmir valley but even in developmental projects, Kashmir valley has been given huge funds in last few days while Jammu gets peanuts, which is disturbing", a Jammuite rued, adding that still the Union government has been trying to woo the Kashmiris and they seemed least bothered about the Jammuities, who have been still ignored and were gifted with toll plaza.
"From these incidents it appears that Jammuites have been taken far-granted so far and there are bleak possibilities that Jammuites will get due share in the upcoming years", a local said.
