PCB launches major crusade against illegal polythene; seizes massive quantity of banned items

JAMMU, Nov 4: Continuing crusade against the use and storage of illegal polythene, a team of J&K Pollution Control Board led by its Regional Director, Dr Syed Nadeem Hussain today carried out a raid at plastic processing unit M/s Sita Enterprises Gangyal Industrial Area Extension Jammu and seized massive quantities of banned packaging material. The total quantity of seized material is 1350 Kgs and legal action has been initiated against the defaulters.
It is pertinent to mention that polythene below 50 microns has been banned in J&K vide SRO 45 and single us disposable items made of non-biodegradable items have been banned vide SRO 231 within J&K.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Chairman J&K PCB, Suresh Chugh and Member Secretary PCB, B M Sharma.
Mr. B.M. Sharma informed that the action shall act as a deterrent for other such units or traders involved in manufacture, sale and purchase of illegal polythene and banned single use disposable items. He said that whosoever shall be found in indulging in the activities of banned products shall face severe action under law. He further warned that the authorities shall continue its crusade against the illegal manufacture and sale of banned polythene items in the coming months and appealed to the general public to co-operate with PCB in maintaining the new laws and protecting the environment. He urged for complete stoppage of illegal polythene and non-disposable items in the market to avoid action.
