Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter to J-K admn: Shift my mother to place equipped for harsh winter
11/5/2019 1:40:04 PM
Srinagar:Four days after Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi that it has been three months since her mother was detained, Iltija Tuesday asked the state administration to shift her mother to a place equipped to deal with the Valley’s harsh winter.

In a letter to the Srinagar deputy commissioner, Iltija has said that the Centre will be responsible if anything happens to Mehbooba. “I’ve repeatedly raised concerns about the well being of my mother. I wrote to DC Srinagar a month ago to shift her someplace equipped for the harsh winter. If anything happens to her, the Indian government will be responsible,” Iltija said in a tweet posted from her mother’s Twitter handle. She also posted a picture of her hand-written letter to the deputy commissioner.

“As you are aware my mother Ms Mehbooba Mufti, former CM J&K has been jailed since 5 August. A doctor recently ran multiple tests on her as she was not keeping well. As per those tests, her Vitamin D, hemoglobin and Calcium levels are low,” Iltija Mufti wrote.

“The accommodation she is currently lodged in is not equipped for Kashmir’s harsh winters. Keeping in mind these points, I would like to request you to shift her to another location more suitable. I hope you will address this problem urgently,”the letter read.

On Friday, reacting to photographs of Modi meeting his mother recently, Iltija called the photographs “heartwarming”, and asked Modi “how much longer will you separate those mothers from their sons”. “Heartwarming PM sir @narendramodi .But its been 3 months since you illegally detained my mother along with thousands of politicians, civil society members & minor boys. How much longer will you separate those mothers from their sons for?” she tweeted.

Iltija, who has been tweeting from her mother’s Twitter handle since September 20, has been vocal about how Mehbooba is “suffering” in detention since the Centre scrapped provisions of Article 370 on August 5.

Mehbooba, along with several political leaders including former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, has been under detention in a guesthouse in Srinagar since August 5. On this day, PM Modi-led NDA government at the Centre abrogated Article 370 and decided to bifurcate the state into two Union terriitories
