Tourists may soon enjoy recreational boat ride in Jammu's Surinsar Lake

Jammu, Nov 17: Good news for people of Jammu, especially the tourists visiting to Surinsar Lake, situated around 32 kilometres from here, may soon enjoy the recreational boat ride in the water body.
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Department of Wildlife Protection, Office of the Chief Wildlife Warden, Suresh Kumar Gupta, has given nod to the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu to go ahead with the recreational boats operation in Surinsar Lake, one of the beautiful lakes located in the city outskirts.
''The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu has been permitted to start recreational boat ride in Surinsar Lake and the Wildlife Department has also permitted for the same,'' official sources here told news agency.
They said that the lake falls under Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority while the government has not only approved the project but also sanctioned funds for raising climbing wall as a part of adventure sports.
''Public notice shall also be issued asking for applications,'' they said, adding that ten-point conditional permission has been granted to the Tourism Department, which has to be fulfilled in toto by the agencies applying.
Sources further said that the Chief Wildlife Warden under J&K Wildlife (Protection) Act. 1978, accorded permission for operation of passenger (recreational) boats comprising three paddle boats and three rowing boats in Surinsar Lake in favour of Director Tourism Jammu for the period up to March 31,2021.
''The time frame has been set to see the response vis-a-vis effect on water bodies post start of boat service,'' sources added.
