JAMMU, Dec 6: After the wait of nearly over six decades, the much anticipated 32 Kilometre Niagard Water Supply Scheme in Kishtwar District seems to become reality with successful conduct of the Test Run today.
As per the details available with Early Times,in a major success, despite of various challenges/hurdles being faced by the Department of PHE Hydraulic Division Kishtwar, the water flow testing of an extremely important and ambitious Naigadh Water Supply Scheme from gravity line to new filtration plant at Tirsar, Kishtwar completed successfully.
The successful test run was today conducted under the overall supervision of
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana who in presence of ADDC Kishtwar Mohd Hanief Malik, Joint Director Planning, Mohd. Iqbal, ALC Kishtwar, Anoop Kumar Tehsildar, Kishtwar Pramod Kumar and officials of PHE department opens the stops to check the water flow, thus paying way for successful conduct ahead of its formal inauguration to be conducted by MOS PMO Dr. Jatindra Singh.
The Naigadh project was first proposed during the regime of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in the year 1952/53 and since then decades were passed before in the year 2002 the Mufti Mohammad Syed lead Congress Government on the initiative of Ex MLA Kishtwar Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo manage 8 inch Dia water pipe line to Kishtwar followed by sanction of Rs. 55 Cr by Omar Abdullah lead government in 2012 which finally saw the ray of light today with its successful conduct.
With the successful conduct of the water flow test, Kishtwar District Headquarter that faces acute water crises will get additional 25 Lakh gallons of water every day which is 5 Lakh gallons much more than the required water to cater the demands of the local populace.
After conducting the water flow test, DDC Kishtwar also made a visit to the filtration plant site, Trirsar. It was informed that in Naigadh Water Supply scheme there are three components viz gravity line, filtartion plant, Over head tank (OHT), Ground Service Reservoir (GSR) wherein the water flow testing of Naigadh Water Supply Scheme from gravity line to new filtration plant completed successfully, besides total pipeline of 32 km has been laid down and work on other components is on full swing.
While speaking on the occasion, DC Kishtwar stated that this water Supply scheme was a dream project, stringed with lots of hope and aspirations of people of Kishtwar, which remained hanging since a long time due to varied reasons/bottlenecks that in fact was a big challenge for the district administration and Hydraulic Division Kishtwar.
"It is a moment of great joy and happiness that a total of 32 km pipeline has been laid down, besides Water flow testing of Naigadh WSS scheme completed successfully , and it become possible due to continued monitoring on the pace of whole work besides the employess of PHE were pressed hard to work day and night." -he maintained.
He informed that at present Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas are getting 10 lacs gallons/day and with the commissioning of Nai Gad WSS an additional 15 lacs gallons per day will be added thereby making availability of 25 lacs gallons per day fulfilling the deficiency of water problems of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas and also bringing solace to the people.
