4th group of students takes part in Adventure Picnics Programme

JAMMU, Dec 6: 4th group comprising 136 students and 13 teachers including 69 females of Shiksha Niketan Schools, Jeevan Nagar and Gandhi Nagar, Jammu successfully undertook the trek, which was organised by Tawi Trekkers.
Manik Slathia, a prominent mountaineer of our Union Territory, led the group of budding trekkers along with trained mountaineer Sakshi Magotra and Sahil Khajuria, a certified travel escort. Thirteen teachers of the school namely Maduri Malhotra, Arti Devi, Rajni Sharma, Nisha Mehra, Sugandha Sethi, Devinder Kour, Heena Charak, Monika Devi, Sandeep Kour, Rama Abrol, Suresh Kumar, Jatin Nanda and Dinesh also accompanied the group. With this the total participation of Shiksha Niketan group of Schools has gone up to 566 including 46 teachers.
A total of about 2000 boys and girls in the age group of 7 to 14 years, mainly from R M Public School, Chowadi, Jammu, J K Montessorie Sr. Secondary School, Tirth Nagar Jammu, Shiksha Niketan Schools, Jeevan Nagar and Gandhi Nagar; Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu, Oriental Academy Sr. Secondary School, Jammu, Shining Star Academy, Muthi, Jammu, M N D P School, R S Pura, Shastri Memorial Hr. Sec. School, Patoli, Jammu and some other schools have so far enrolled themselves to face the call of the mountains. However, the participation is likely to touch the 4000 mark before the conclusion of the programme on 18th January, 2010.
During the day long venture the young adventurers besides enjoying a panoramic view of the serene lake and the Mother Nature during their short trek also learn about the geological, geographical and historical facts about the area. They also visit the local zoo, maintained by the department of Wild Life Protection, where they can see many beautiful birds and wild animals and learnt about their habitat and their behavior.
