Advisor Sharma inaugurates 50 room Nargis Girls Hostel at SKUAST-K

SRINAGAR, Dec 19: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, KK Sharma today inaugurated a 50 room girls' hostel at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Shuhama of Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences & Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K).
The hostel named as Nargis Girls Hostel has been built at a cost of Rs 5.3 crore. It has the facilities for boarding of 100 students and scholars. The work on this hostel started in March 2017 and was completed in August 2019. The hostel also has a games room, TV room, common room, gym and other facilities.
The Advisor lauded the university authorities for completing the construction of the hostel in an expedited manner. He said that government is committed to help the university to further augment its infrastructure for the benefit of students, scholars and ultimately the farmers.
Advisor Sharma said that the government has completed about 100 developmental projects in the last few months and this hostel is the continuation of that trend. He said steps are being taken to help the university to become a world-class university. He said that SKUAST-K should benefit from the infrastructure and its immense Human Resource pool and become an inspiration for other universities in the country.
Advisor Sharma said that one of the focus areas is Agro and food processing industry which has a huge potential in J&K. He called upon the University to aid farmers like apple growers to multiply their income by value addition of their crops. He said that the forthcoming investors summit will also bring new ideas and investment in such sectors.
On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof Nazeer Ahmad highlighted the achievements of the University and its future work.
The Advisor later visited the Veterinary Clinical Services Complex to inspect the facilities.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Hashmat Ali Khan and other officers were also present.
