DM directs concerned authorities for strict implementation of Prevention of Defacement of Property Act

SRINAGAR, Dec 19: Taking strong note of instances thereof District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has instructed strict implementation of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act in Srinagar city.
He has warned against any form of defacement of property in public view anywhere in the city and has directed the concerned authorities to initiate immediate and strict legal action against anyone found involved in the act.
It should be noted that defacement includes impairing or interfering with the appearance or beauty, damaging, disfiguring, spoiling or injuring in any other way whatsoever a property which includes any building, hut, structure, monument, statue, wall, tree, fence or vehicle. It also includes pasting of posters and flyers on walls.
The DM also issued an order imposing strict prohibitions on putting up any sort of advertisement or signboard on smart street light poles in the city.
The order states that putting up such boards and signs cause damage to these lights besides causing adverse effects to the beauty and aesthetics of the city.
It directs for removing all advertisements and signboards as well as banners and posters from all such poles on all streets and roads across the city.
The order warns against any future instances of putting up any kind of signs on these lights anywhere in the city stressing that business operators or coaching centres or anyone else found involved therein would be dealt with strictly under the law.
The Police authorities have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of both the defacement law and the order prohibiting putting up advertisements or signboards of whatever shape or form on smart street light poles in the city.
