J&K admin to renovate protected monuments, funds released to tourism department

Jammu, Dec 21: In a bid to preserve heritage, Jammu and Kashmir Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums as per CAPEX BUDGET 2019 under State Sector sanction has released funds to tourism for renovation of historic monuments.
As per sources the office of the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K as per order number 353 of 2019 sanctioned to release funds to the tune of Rs 37.13 lakhs under the scheme "3101-Repair and Preservation of Monuments (Archives)" in favour of Deputy Director Archives for further placement at the disposal of the executing agencies on account of repair, renovation of state protected monuments.
Sources however, said that total estimated cost for renovation of projects was 207.94 (in lakhs) out of which 111.38 has been allotted so far.
They said that for renovation of historical mosque at Jaffer Chak, Jammu, Rs 31.46 lakh was an estimated cost out of which 13.88 was allotted.
For renovation and repair of Ladden Kotli Fort at Udhampur, Rs 99.15 lakhs was an estimated cost out of which Rs 45 lakhs was released in two installments, for repair and renovation of Mansar Haveli at Samba, Rs 68.54 lakh was an estimated cost out of which Rs 45 lakhs has been allotted and for renovation and repair of Dogra Art Museum, Jammu, Rs 8.79 lakhs was an estimated cost out of which Rs 7.50 was allotted.
Sources further said that as per an order, the funds are released and incurred of expenditure shall be subject to the fulfilment of the conditions that the repair, renovation and conservation work is carried out without any deviation from the original architecture of the monuments, using appropriate material and construction technology so as to maintain the original character of the monuments.
"No re-appropriate shall be allowed without prior approval from the competent authority," the order further read adding that the executing agencies shall ensure that the funds released are utilised for the purpose by fulfilling the codal formalities and also ensure timely completion of the project.
Meanwhile also added, "except Mansar Haveli, other restorations works are yet to be tenderised," adding, "the renovation work on Mansar Haveli is yet to see the progress."
"The tender for Mansar Haveli repair and renovation was noticed on December 12 and December 24 has been notified as date of opening of tender," they added.
The tender has been invited by the Deputy Director Tourism (M&W) on behalf of the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
