After NC and PDP, PC leaders exploring alternatives
12/29/2019 11:46:40 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 29: Even as some of the leaders from the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party have either already quit the party or are “exploring options of joining some national parties”, the same is becoming true for the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone.
Sources said some of the leaders from the party are “fed up of the politics” of Sajad Lone who is presently under detention in Srinagar, and look ahead to explore alternatives.
Sources said some of the leaders from the PC are in touch with leaders from some national parties and may join the same in the coming weeks.
Sources said at least two of the leaders from the party are in talks with other parties and may announce their decision in the coming weeks.
Sources said the PC leaders were of the impression that Sajad Lone was close to the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party in center and thus had joined him. “But his getting detained along with other cadres including the deputy mayor has dented his image,” said a PC leader while talking on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said even though the top leaders of the PC are trying to keep the “cadres intact”, the move may not be of much of help to Sajad Lone, who is lodged at MLA Hostel Sub Jail.
It is pertinent to mention that till a few months ago, Sajad Lone had been luring leaders from other parties including Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and the National Conference to his party.
“But after his poor performance in the Parliament elections, his credibility was dented and this may be the reason as to why his party leaders look for change and better prospects,” said a leader of a national party.
It is pertinent to mention that Sajad Lone could not win even one seat in the Parliament elections held in May 2019.
While he was claiming to win all the three seats in the last general elections, his party failed to open account.
Repeated attempts to contact the PC leaders did not bear fruits.
